Thoughts #3: Dare

Yes, I willingly watched a film starring Emmy Rossum. Crazy, and ridiculous - I know, I know. And yes, it was a cliche’d coming of age “teenage” cult film. BUT it was getting rave reviews at Sundance, and I am always one for giving a new independent writer / director a chance. (Adam Salky as director, and writer David Brind)

Dare tells the story of three graduating teenagers getting ready to take on “the real world” at college, in a 4 separate acts. The teens of course encounter complicated and overly emotional sexual situations, which make them question their beliefs and morals. Blah blah blah…

Albeit the acting was mostly horrendous. The story was pathetic - BUT the movie was not a failure. The cinematography of the film was spectacular for such a low budget, independent film. It had a great, look and feel to it. Each shot was carefully crafted to house the horrific actors.

If anything, the film was a learning experience. A terrible film can be partially saved from good filming, editing and sound. Partially.

I will be sure to keep an eye out for future work of Salky and Brind - but pass on ever recommending this one to anybody.
