Thoughts #6: Crazy Heart

Written and directed by Scott Cooper, Crazy Heart has been a film that I have been wanting to see since it was first released.

The film follows the story of Bad Blake (played brilliantly by Jeff Bridges) as a broken-down, played-out country music singer. Blake is left with ten dollars in his pocket as he travels across the state to play in local bowling lanes, small bars, and birthday parties. It is not until Blake meets a young femme by the name of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal) does he decide to try to kick his bad habits of drinking, smoking and not caring about his music.

The film is centred around Blake and his battles with life and the obstacles that it brings. My main concern prior to seeing this film was it’s potential to be extremely sad - but in fact it played out to be quite the opposite. It’s a reminder that as bad as things may seem to get - all it takes is a little effort to turn things around and making something of it.

With brilliant acting from all roles, this film is nothing short of incredible. My favorite film of 2010 thus far.
